My Blogging Story

Here’s my story (sad but true), I started this blog to get my feelings out about my sister ending her life.  To say my sister was my best friend would be an understatement, she was part of me, etched on my soul, as my other half.  Seriously, we were creepy, we could speak by telepathy….no not really LOL but we could make each other laugh, while not even saying a word.  It was like we read each others’ minds.

When my sister killed herself, it was like a piece of me died.  Thank God I had such a strong support system including my fiancée and my best friend or things could have turned out very differently for me.  Of course I had my family also, but they were suffering in their own personal hells, right along with me.

After a couple of months, I knew if I didn’t do something I would lose my mind slowly.  I turned to something my sister loved, holistic health.  I learned everything I could about essential oils, meditation, yoga but I really loved essential oils.  I started helping friends and family with their ailments and they would always call me an hour later and say “Holy shit, those snake oils really work!!!”  LOL

I’ve never considered myself much of a writer but one day I read a blog post by Lena Gott from What Mommy Does and I decided to learn more about blogging.  I took Lena’s blogging email course and after emailing her my story, and her saying definitely do it, I decided to start my blog.  The rest is history…… like Nicole Reed said, “Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us.”

My “WHY” has evolved the last couple of months.  It seemed like every time I turned my computer on, there was another story about a young child killing themselves.   My goal now is to go to schools and ask for a formal suicide prevention program be put in place.  If I have to go to every school in the county, state, and country, that’s what I will do to try to stop this heartbreaking epidemic.  Also, I want to start empowering parents with the knowledge they need to help their kids who may be suffering.  Mental health has such a stigma around it.  If we can start this conversation, youth suicide could be preventable, but it takes every one to make that possible.  Schools, communities, parents, friends, the more we talk about it opening, the better it will get.

2 Tips for New Bloggers

Don’t give up!!!  When you start blogging, you think it’s just going to be writing until you purge the demons….well it’s not.  It takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

If you’re not tech savvy, you won’t be where you need to be in the beginning BUT play around on your site.  Figure out your theme, figure out how to make Pinterest pins in Canva.  Keep trying to do something anything, I still have no idea what I’m doing LOL

Essential Oil Recipes Every Woman Needs

Body Butters & Lip Balms

Sorry guys, this one is just for the ladies.  In this weeks DIY, we’re going to focus on woman’s health including PMS, Menopause, Cramps, UTIs, Heavy Periods and the essential oil recipes every woman needs and can use (*at least once a month for some ladies) to help them.

Essential Oil Recipes for Women
Every woman can benefit from these essential oil recipes at some time in their life.

I’ve had it pretty easy until…..

Growing up I never had PMS or a cramp or tender breasts, I barely knew I was getting my period until it showed up.  Brace yourself….and that was only for about 3, very light, days.  I know, you hate me, but wait, it all comes full circle.  At 33, I began to get the most awful pains I’ve ever felt during my period, which was now at least 7 days, and a nightmare.  I was diagnosed as having uterine fibroids.  Since I had my tube tied (I only had one because of an ectopic pregnancy), I was given the option of a partial hysterectomy.  Being told I wouldn’t go through menopause, I agreed to the hysterectomy.  I was in and out of the hospital in 6 hours, the fastest hysterectomy my OB/GYN ever performed (YAHHH ME LOL).  I didn’t know then, that 5 years later I would be going into full blown menopause.

It’s as bad as they say it is

I’m 38 years and I’m going through menopause.  Looking back, I probably starting going through perimenopause within 3 months of getting the operation.  During this time, I had 2 different spinal surgeries, surgery on both hands, and then I broke my leg, so I probably didn’t notice LOL.  Oh boy, do I notice now. The hot flashes, constant cold hands and feet, headaches, trouble sleeping, and the MOOD SWINGS.  I am seriously insane with the mood swings.  One minute, I’m Snow White, happily sweeping the kitchen, the next minute, I’m the evil stepmother, demanding someone to sweep.  WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SWEEPS AROUND HERE!!!  Seriously, it’s bad but not as bad as the severe crying over nonsense.  I cried the other day over basketball.  Like worse than Kristen Bell cries over getting a sloth for her birthday LOL (I love her.)

Essential Oil Recipes for PMS and Menopause
These recipes are great for whatever stage of life you’re at

The #1 Essential Oil for PMS and Menopause

There are a ton of essential oils that help with all woman’s health issue but the #1 oil for PMS and Menopause is Clary Sage*.  Sniff it from the bottle, put it in personal inhalers*, use it in a Diffuser* or a roller blend.  You could even make a linen/body spray with distilled water.   Either way you choose to use it, it will help.  But like I said, there are other essential oils that help as well for both issues.  I’ll break them down separately and then I’ll give you some amazing recipes that are good for all skill levels.

Essential Oils for PMS

Bergamot, Clary Sage, Cypress, Lavender, Roman Chamomile

Essential Oils for Menopause

Clary Sage, Cypress, Fennel, Geranium, Juniper, Lavender

Some helpful hints(& disclaimers) before the recipes

1 tsp = 5ml (1/6 of an ounce)

1 tbsp.= 15ml (1/2 of an ounce)

Roller bottle=10ml (1/3 of an ounce)

1 oz.= 30 ml

Disclaimer-see my disclosure page for full term but here are the cliff notes.  Please do not use any remedy I mention on this page in place of medical care.  These recipes are in my opinion the best to try, that is not to say that every recipe on this page is magic.  Some may help and others may not work as well.  Always use common sense when working with essential oils.  They are potent and you only need the amount of drops stated.  Some of the products mentioned are affiliate links, which means I get a small commission and you pay the same amount-Win/Win.  Enough with all that, let’s check out the recipes.

Essential Oils Recipes for PMS

Roller Bottle recipe for general PMS (can be used every 2 hours for up to 7 days)

6 drops Clary Sage (great for emotional support and general discomfort)

4 drops Bergamot (uplifting)

2 drops Cypress* (eases stress)

Please drops in roller bottle and then top off with sweet almond oil* or any carrier oil.  Here is a carrier oil sampler* that has a small bottle of a few different carrier oils.

I use these Roller Bottles*, they are amber which is good because you don’t want light getting into any essential oil recipe.  Also, they have a metal roller which glides on smoother and easier. For those of you who have never made your own rollers, just pop the top of the roller bottle off (the plastic part).  Once filled, used the palm of your hand, holding the bottle tightly (so it doesn’t go flying), and pop it back in.  Then screw the cap on all the way and it will be ready to use.   Give the bottle a gentle shake before each use.  Roll on wrists, back of neck, and lower abdomen.

Personal Inhaler Recipe

You could also use this recipe made with personal inhalers*.  The benefit of a personal inhaler is that only you can smell it (with a roller other people may smell the oils.)  This could be used at school, work, or around kids (some co-workers, classmates, teacher, or even your kids might not enjoy the smell of the oils-just like some people like a certain perfume and not others.)

8 drops Black Pepper (stimulating for times of low energy)

4 drops Bergamot (eases anxiety and depression)

2 drops Birch (also amazing for emotional support)

The personal inhalers come in 3 pieces: the tube (which will have the outer shell already screwed on), the cotton wick, and the cap.  Simply take whatever tube you want to use, place the cotton wick inside, add the drops to the cotton, and snap the cap into place.  Remove outer shell and give it a sniff.  Inhalers can be used for all kinds of aromatherapy recipes.  They are easy to take along with you anywhere and I even make them for my kids when they have sleep or anxiety issues.

Essential Oil Recipes for Menopause

I use two different rollers, one for daytime and one for at night and right before bed

Daytime Roller Recipe

3 drops Juniper* (fights fatigue)

6 drops Fennel* (stimulates estrogen productive & for fluid retention)

4 drops Geranium* (balances emotions & hormones)

Night Roller Recipe

5 drops Lavender (irritability, stress, & sedative)

5 drops Clary Sage (hormone support & sedative)

3 drops Cypress* (hot flashes, night sweats, sedative)

Rub on wrists, back of neck, lower abdomen, or lower back.

Here are a couple bonus recipes for other Woman’s issues

Heavy Periods-5 drops of Geranium in 1 tbsp. of carrier.  Rub all on the lower abdomen and lower back.

Severe Cramps-5 drops Roman Chamomile in 1 tsp. carrier. Rub all on the lower abdomen and lower back.

UTI-4 drops Cedarwood* and 4 drops Begamot in 1 tbsp. of carrier oil.  Rub the mixture on lower abdomen over bladder (wear an older t-shirt because the oil may stain) then immediately cover with a hot water bottle or heating pad.  Drink tons of water and at least 2 glasses of cranberry juice (not cocktail.)  Cedarwood is a strong diuretic so it will make you urinate (ALOT) but that is a good thing.  It helps push all the bad bacteria out and flush out the infection.  I can’t tell you how many people this remedy has worked for.  Again, let me state that this should not take the place of a doctor’s recommendation but if you want to save yourself a co-pay and give this a try first.  I’m telling you-IT WORKS!!

This is an easy DIY Sugar Scrub recipe.  The base of the recipe is so simple, you probably have all the ingredients in your cabinets.  The essential oils you add are up to your preference, or your needs.

Super Easy Recipe

For stress you can use Lavender, Clary Sage (Do not use during pregnancy), Chamomile (Roman or German), or Marjoram to ease the days stress away .  For energy you can use Peppermint, citrus oils, Eucalyptus, Rosemary or Spearmint to give you an extra shot of pep in the morning.  For depression you can use Bergamot, citrus oils, Jasmine, Clary Sage, Patchouli, or Vetiver to uplift you while keeping you grounded.  For pain you could use Lavender, Copaiba, Marjoram, Lemongrass, Clove, Eucalyptus, Black Pepper, or Rosemary to ease general aches and pains, muscle tension, sprains and strains.

I know this recipe seems super easy and that’s because it is.  You probably have all the ingredients in your cabinets right now.

Easy Sugar Scrub Ingredients

  1. Sugar-you can use any kind of sugar you prefer.  White sugar is better for full body scrub and brown sugar is better for a facial scrub.
  2. Oil-this is also your preference.  I use this fractionated Coconut Oil but you can use any oil you want.  I even used olive oil once, didn’t smell that great though lol
  3. Essential Oils-below I will give you a list of all the oils you could use.  It’s really up to your personal preference-stress relief, depression, energy, or pain blends will be listed.  I use a variety of oils from many different manufacturers.  It is your decision on what oils you want to buy.  Here’s a link  Lavender
  4. Containers-I use Wide mouth mason Jars but if you’re concerned about breakage these Plastic containers can also be used.  The recipe is based on a 8 oz container, if you use a bigger one just double it.

This recipe should only take a few minutes to make and should last 2-3 weeks.  I use it 3 times a week and it usually only lasts 3 weeks.  This sugar scrub is amazing.  The sugar will work to eliminate dead skin while the coconut oil moisturizes.  You can even shave immediately after without any shaving cream!!  It’s also the perfect gift for friends, co-workers, or teachers.

Please be careful after using this scrub, the coconut oil with make the tub or shower extremely slippery.  Rinse shower or tub with hot water after using.

Essential Oil Recipes to Try

You can literally use any combination of essential oils you prefer in this sugar scrub.  You can use just one oil, such as Peppermint for some added spunk in the morning.  Here are a couple of recipes to try.
